Colorado Vacation Photo Gallery

A recent trip to Estes Park, Colorado with my family left me bringing home over 500 beautiful photos from the trip! Following is a photo gallery of some of the pictures that I took.

Colorado is an amazing and beautiful state!  Our campground was in Estes Park, but we also visited a few other places including:

  • camped in Nebraska on our way to and from Colorado
  • visited the Wild Animal Sanctuary
  • camped at Golden Gate Canyon State Park
  • visited Rocky Mountain National Park every day

I enjoyed seeing all the wildlife and birds that call Colorado home. Here is a list of a few of the wonderful creatures that I saw:

Birds

  • Gadwall*
  • Bald Eagle
  • Broad-tailed Hummingbird*
  • Steller’s Jay*
  • Clark’s Nutcracker
  • Black-billed Magpie*
  • Mountain Chickadee
  • Pygmy Nuthatch
  • House Wren*
  • Mountain Bluebird*
  • Hermit Thrush
  • Yellow Warbler
  • Yellow-rumped Warbler*
  • Wilson’s Warbler
  • Cassin’s Finch
  • Red Crossbill
  • Pine Siskin
  • Lesser Goldfinch
  • Spotted Towhee*

I saw a lot  more species that I have not listed. Bird species that have a * by them are ones that are pictured in the photo gallery. Can you identify them?

Mammals

  • Least Chipmunk*
  • Yellow-bellied Marmot
  • Wyoming Ground Squirrel*
  • Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel*
  • Black-tailed Prairie Dog
  • Pine Squirrel
  • Coyote*
  • Mink
  • American Elk*
  • Mule Deer*
  • Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep*
  • Moose (with calves)*
  • Pika

My favorite animals to see were the elk, coyote, bighorn sheep, and moose. I loved watching the baby moose eat and play! One evening, while we were at Sprague Lake, two young elk bulls came out into the lake and started playing! We saw elk every day that we were there! Sometimes we would see them in Rocky Mountain National Park, sometimes strolling through our campground, and sometimes wandering around in downtown Estes Park! Again, the mammals that have a * beside them are featured in the photo gallery.

Fish

  • Brook Trout*
  • Rainbow Trout
  • Catfish

I have to include the fish for Anna, she is the one who went fishing with our dad every day she had her Colorado license!

Hope you enjoy looking at my pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them! They will make you want to visit Colorado (or maybe you live there already!)
